Hello!

The weather is looking good with the snow melting up high, M/C and ATV season is now here!!
RTR Performance is shifting from snow and the boating season is also just ahead.

This month I’m going to discuss the motocross track out at Whispering Pines and the offroad riding areas around Kamloops.

Lets start with OFF ROAD RIDING: The areas are unbelievable and within minutes from downtown Kamloops. The Inks Lake/Greenstone area is my favorite place to ride. The trails are numerous and go from very challenging single track to higher speed, flowing wider trails that are also ATV friendly…..this area really has it all.

With volunteers in the GKMA (Greater Kamloops Motorcycle Association) and the GKAA (Greater Kamloops ATV Association) like Ken McClelland, Kent Antoniak, Stu Patton, Dennis Rombough, and Andrew Hill helping to keep this area open and maintained, this is a no brainer….join the club, support the areas, and show our organization in numbers!  This is truly an awesome riding area and we are very lucky to have it. If you have never been there, just head 5 to 10 min up the Coquihalla Hwy and take the Inks Lake Exit 355 to your right, turn left at stop sign and follow road until you cross the cattle guard and you can find a spot to unload and explore.

You can purchase GKMA and GKAA club memberships at your favorite dealer in Kamloops (which I hope is RTR Performance)

Now to the Whispering Pines MX Track: This place is another jewel for the motorcyclists in our area. It is located 35 min down Westsyde Road, just past the community of Black Pines. I talk to so many people that would like to try riding the track but they are nervous like they’ll be in the way or they’ll crash and burn off a huge jump. Well, all I have to say to you is, if you have thought about it….go try it! A 5 year old on a 50cc mini bike can ride this track. It is very safe and you do not have to have your wheels leave the ground if you don’t want to. With volunteers like Dan Coombs, Lee Patjas, Darryl Patjat, Dennis Dube, Jason Labby, Willie Watchel, Jim Watchel and many more organizing and maintaining this track, it is worth trying out. We are fortunate enough to have a full sprinkler system for the track, washrooms with showers, and camping in the grass fields with plenty of room for the biggest of motorhomes………right next to the North Thompson River!
Come pick up your track pass here at RTR Performance.

This track will once again be holding the Canadian Pro National Motocross races on June 5th and 6th.  The track will be tweaked and made more difficult the week prior. If you have never been to a Pro National and you remotely like motorcycles, you have to go check it out! It is like a Nascar race on the dirt. There are factory semi trucks and trailers with some of the fastest riders from all over the world competing. To name a few countries: USA, South Africa, Hungary, and from all over Canada.

X-Team Racers on Top of the Mountain - Again!

SKI-DOO SUMMITS CONTINUE TO REIGN AS KING OF THE HILL

Valcourt, Quebec, February 8, 2010 ˆ For the second event in a row X-Team racers used their Ski-Doo Summits to capture three King of the Hill titles on the premier Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association (RMSHA) circuit.

The Preston, Idaho event January 22nd kicked off the season for RMSHA and the X-Team was prepared and itching to get it started. Vinnie Clark has been a perennial favourite and he came through with a win in Pro Stock 1000, then went on to take Stock King of the Hill honors. Tom Roby is another of the top mountain men on the X-Team, and with Vinnie having set the bar so high, he was determined to make his own mark. Roby took the win in Pro Improved Stock 1000 on his Summit 800R sled and then went back to grab the Pro Improved King of the Hill title too. Dane Wilson took the third King of the Hill title for Ski-Doo with his win in the Semi-Pro class.

Walton, ON 2009 Monster Energy National – Final Round
August 16, 2009 - Walton, ON   2009 Monster Energy National – Final Round

With undeniable podium and top five finishes, our first year was definitely impressive and showed our team’s dedication and commitment to our valued sponsors.

2009 National Finishes

MX1- Liam O’Farrell #28 completed in solid positions every moto and finished 8th place overall fro 2009, which is an improvement of 300% from 2008!!!

MX2 – Kerim Fitgerald #19 had an amazing last few rounds.  He definitely had us all on the edge from the first lap to the lap with two first place overall finishes.

This year saw Kerim finishing the 2009 season with a National Number 4!!! Congratulations Kerim! You deserve it.

Now a run down of WALTON’s race:

Walton’s weather was hot and sunny, and for the fans was the best it had been in a few years. The riders, I am sure, wished it was a little cooler, but the Orange Motorsports, RTR Performance, Troy Lee Design, and KTM team consisting of #19 Fitz-Gerald and #28 O’Farrell powered up with Red Bull and were READY TO RACE when the gate dropped.

MX2 – Kerim Fitz-Gerald #19

After last weekend’s exceptional ride, Kerim and his mechanic went to the line to prove the results achieved at SDL were made up of true skill and determination. The gate dropped and Kerim pulled top five around the first corner and rode to finish first. The second moto saw Kerim take the hole shot on his KTM 250SXF and stay in first with a 7 - 5 second lead on the battle for second.  On the podium, Kerim thanked his team and all his sponsors with pride and emotion that is not always seen.

MX1 – Liam O’Farrell #28

Well true to form #28 started around mid pack each moto and charged hard.  In the first moto, Liam came around the first lap in 13th position.  Each lap he was able to run consistent lap times, which allowed him to gain positions and pass other riders.  Overall for the day, #28 placed 4th.  Great ride, Liam!

After the day, our team decided that we were all going to put our dollars together and BUY #28 a start for next year!!!

A Special Thank-You to Our Sponsors. We had a great first year at the Nationals and were proud to promote each of you as our sponsors.

Kerim Fitzgerald wins the overall in mx2 at San Del Lee
CMRC MX Pro National: 8th round, Sand Del Lee, ON, August 9th, 2009

Team Royal Distributing Thor KTM Canada arrived at the Sand Del Lee race track ready to do battle and move up the point’s ladder.

Kerim Fitzgerald #19As the gate dropped for the first MX2 moto, teammates Eric Nye and Kyle McGlynn each rounded the first turn in the top 10. During the first lap, a racing incident with a fellow competitor resulted in an early moto crash sending Kyle to the ground seriously injuring his shoulder.

Royal Distributing Thor MX KTM Canada’s Eric Nye continued his consistent riding and made his way to the front of the pack only to suffer a set back mid-moto causing him to lose valuable positions, and forced him to play catch up for the remaining minutes of Moto 1. He crossed the finish line in 7th place.

After a decent start Nye raced in 3rd place before finding some trouble about half way through the moto. He found his groove again laying down some fast laps including the 2nd quickest lap of the race, but ran out of time before he could reel in the leaders. The defending champ finished moto 2 in 6th position. His overall of 6th for the day doesn’t reflect his true ability but Eric looks to rebound and finish on a high note next weekend at the Walton Trans Can National.

Royal Distributing’s Jeff Northrop was racing in 4th position for the first half of the moto 1 in MX1 when bad luck struck in the form of a flat rear tire. After a pit stop to repair the damage Norcal was unable to make up the time to
score any points in the highly competitive MX1 class. Fresh off his top 10 in Moncton, rookie rider Ryan Millar kept his forward momentum rolling and scored valuable points in two very impressive motos going 8-11 for a 9th
overall position.

The #15 of Mason Phillips moved into the top 10 in points this weekend with his 5th overall score. Mason rode his KTM 450 SX-F to 4th place in the first moto and 5th place in the second moto.

Team Royal Distributing Thor KTM Canada had a guest rider this weekend. Barrie, Ontario’s Kate McKerroll has been competing in the Royal Distributing Canadian National Women’s Series on a Parker Bros. Powersports KTM 144 SX. The #94 of McKerroll joined the team at Sand Del Lee and did the team proud placing 2nd overall for the day. The 15 year old McKerroll did not get the chance to compete in the first two rounds, but managed a 9th overall for the series after just riding in 3 of the 5 race series.

Team RTR Performance/Orange Motorsports Troy Lee Designs had a fantastic day. MX2’s Kerim Fitz-Gerald rode his RTR/OMS prepped KTM 250 SX-F up front the entire day showing his true potential winning first place for the first time in his Canadian moto career. His teammate Liam O’Farrell also turned in great results on board his KTM 450 SX-F going 7-6 for a 6th overall.

KTM Canada, Inc. would like to thank their generous sponsors for their continued support. Without their help we wouldn't be able to go racing:

Royal Distributing, Thor, FMF, Alpinestars, Factory Connection Canada, Renthal, Pirelli, CYCRA, Twin Air, PG
Graphics, Atpac, Ignition, Boston Pizza, OGIO, Impact Canopies, KTM Power Wear, SBS Brakes, Braking, R&R Automation
